Boarding Student Information
Only SKS students may use the school shuttle or stay on campus overnight. All students must notify the Admissions Office of travel plans before August 1st.
Students traveling alone may be picked up at EWR, JFK, or LGA via the school shuttle. Complete the New International Arrival/Airport Pickup Survey to arrange your pickup. Plan to arrive August 27th; families traveling together should arrive August 28th.

International students in grades 8–9 are required to have a local guardian; all international students are strongly encouraged to retain one. Guardians help bridge family, school, and student during vacations and weekends.
Complete the Guardian Form through the Blackbaud/Magnus Health Parent Portal.
Each room is equipped with a bed, mattress, closet, desk, chair, bookshelf, and window blinds. Don't overpack — bring essentials and acquire more as the year unfolds.
For fire safety, no microwaves, toasters, hot plates, air-conditioners, or TVs are permitted. Halogen lamps and non-UL approved cords will be confiscated.
Mark all linens clearly with your name. Essentials include:
*No taller than 13 inches.
Optional paid service through the Business Office (bring two labeled bags). Free washers and dryers are available in every dorm.
Bring equipment for personal interests. Toiletries and school supplies are available at the School Store and on weekend shopping trips.
Avoid keeping cash in your room — an ATM is available on campus. Valuable documents (I-20s, passports) are stored in the Admissions Office. Room safes are available for rent and are strongly recommended for any valuables or excess cash.

New students entering after Grade 9 must ensure SKS receives official transcripts for all secondary work (grade 9+). Send to Registrar Ingrid Ciunga at iciunga@sks.org.
Teachers provide instructions in class. Do not pre-purchase — placement tests and drop/add periods affect schedules. Schedules issued on Registration Day.
Each student brings a laptop. SKS supports MacOS 15+ (MacBook Air 2020+, MacBook Pro 2018+, MacBook Neo, all Apple Silicon) or Windows 11 laptops. Language must support English. Wired Ethernet is not provided.

Phones permitted but not during class, school-wide meetings, study hall, Thursday meals, or assemblies. Instructors may collect phones in class. Violations result in Dean's Hours or Saturday Detention.
All traffic is routed through a web filter. Personal hotspots, WiFi repeaters, and network extenders are prohibited. Students and parents must sign the Acceptable Use Form in the MySKS portal.
Student Banking & Billing
An ATM is available in Orr Commons ($2.50 per transaction). A debit card is recommended in lieu of carrying large sums of cash. Please have an earnest conversation with your student about responsible debit/credit card use.
Parents receive monthly statements via Blackbaud Tuition Management. Direct questions to our Business Office Manager, Kathy Syvertsen, at ksyvertsen@sks.org.
Dress Code
The SKS Dress Code exists to unify the student body in general appearance, elevate the aesthetic on campus, and heighten our collective academic focus.

Collared shirt required — oxford, polo, or collared blouse, long or short sleeve. Colors: white, navy, or light blue. Navy blazer, SKS sweater (navy/gray), or SKS sweatshirt/hoodie as a second layer. No oversize brand logos.

Navy or khaki straight-leg chinos, properly fitted; shirts tucked. No denim, leggings, athletic pants/joggers, or yoga pants. Shorts hem no more than 2" above the knee. Skirts/skorts in navy, khaki, or SKS plaid.

Dress shoes, boots, work shoes, hiking shoes, or sneakers. Sandals, open-toed shoes, and Crocs prohibited for safety.

All students must purchase SKS athletic practice apparel. Minimum: 1 sweatshirt, 2 t-shirts, 1 pair shorts, 1 pair athletic pants. Order via sideline.bsnsports.com.
Unacceptable at all times: shirts exposing chest or midriff; clothing referencing drugs, alcohol, violence, or offensive imagery. No hats in academic buildings (religious or cultural exceptions considered — speak with the Asst. Head for Student Life).
